I am privileged and happy to announce one of the collaborations that I have been working on. Over the past few months I have been involved in the —Feel More Better, “Not PhotoShopped” campaign. At Feel More Better, Eva and Seth are trying to make the world a happier place for both women and girls by promoting a healthy self image. It is important that we love ourselves for who we are not the person that society dictates that we should be. As a teenager, it was hard to grasp my mind around the message that the media continually promotes regarding the portrayal of celebrities, as flawless individuals. For a good portion of my life, I truly believed that they were naturally, perfect and amazing. I have never been the slimmest girl on the block and throughout my teenage years, I thought that there was something wrong with me. I was always striving to be “smaller” & “skinnier” but no matter how healthy I ate or how many hours I exercised, I was never going to be as skinny as the model on the cover of Shape. The blood line and gene pool that I inherited, does not allow this look. As I got older, I learned to love my body. Everyone has their flaws but that is just a small part of the person that you are. If you just focus & pay attention on your imperfections, then you will never truly be content in your own skin. Learn to appreciate and celebrate the special and unique characteristics that you have been blessed with. I support the Feel More Better campaign because I believe in what they stand for. This is a truly wonderful campaign for many reasons. In this day and age, it is sad to see the amount of pressure girls put upon themselves to be “perfect,” which is, in truth, an unrealistic goal. It is necessary that they realize they are beautiful in their own way, and no one should ever be able to tell them otherwise. It takes a certain strength to be able to stand above the shallowness of many and accept who you are.

I love this idea! This “learn to say ‘fuck you’ to the world once in a while. You have every right to. Just stop thinking, worrying, looking over your shoulder, wondering, doubting, fearing, hurting, hoping for some easy way out…grinding away at yourself. Stop it and just DO.” hit home for me. Growing up in a suburban middle class area most of the girls I grew up with had two parents, siblings, money for extra activities like dance and cheer and money for the mall. They also were stick thin and all got brand new cars for their sixteenth birthdays. Designer clothes, workouts with personal trainers, etc. After getting out of high school I realized how stupid it was for me to want to be all those things. I will never be that! My parents aren’t together and they are better off and extremely happy on their own, I respect that. I am an only child, it taught me amazing things about myself including how to be self reliant and take responsiblity for my own actions. And I must say my 1989 Nissan Sentra was the best little car because it had personality. I wish looking back I could have told my younger self how awesome and truely original I was instead of being self concious and scared to show my true colors. I have a butt and I love my butt! My tighs are rockin’! I wish a thousand times over that girls could accept exactly how they are and run with it.
